As a photographer of nudes in the landscape, I not only attempt to honor the beauty and wonder of both landscape and human form, but also to seek out and explore possible themes and messages which may emerge. The results are not always classical nude photography, but are, somehow, more satisfying to my particular tastes and expressive needs. The following are examples from recent journeys in this direction:
OUT OF THE ASHES
This series was inspired by a model who lay down in the ashes of a burned out tree to get warm. Her huddling beneath the wind, and eventual rise into the sunlight, resulted in a wonderful depiction of an archetypal death/rebirth cycle.
OUT OF EDEN AND THE RISE OF RELIGION
This series was inspired by a fellow photographer whose religious interpretation of my critique images seemed to link them to a story that was greater that my simple portrayal of survival in the desert. This series includes both male and female forms. Examples include: “Expelled from the Garden,” “High Desert Madonna,” and “The Pilgrim.”
This series began when a model crawled out of the primordial soup and slithered his was up a dry creek bed, sniffing the air like a giant lizard.
